Most people, when they try to lose bodyfat or to gain muscle or to transform their body, like to follow their progress with the scale – because that is the easiest solution. Body water 101 – the basics: 


Our body manages water retention or excretion mostly through sodium and potassium concentrations. The concentration of sodium and potassium in certain tissues is a constant – sodium is more abundant int he blood and the extracellular fluids, while potassium concentration is higher inside the cells. The body tries to maintain homeostasis, and thus the concentration and ratio of these two ions. If we eat something salty, sodium concentration increases. To compensate for that, the body increases sodium excretion through the kidneys. If we drink a lot of water, the excat opposit will happen – it dilutes our blood, and to compensate that, the kidneys start excreting more water, and more urine. 


What causes water retention? 
There are multiple factors at play: 
1. High sodium intake. 
2. A low carbohydrate diet followed by a high carb meal/day/diet. That causes glycogen super compensation, and every gram of glycogen synthesized binds another 3,6 grams of water (glycogen is stored in the form of glycogen-hydrate). The more muscle you have, the more glycogen you can store, the more water will be retained under the described circumstances. 
3. Hormonal enviroment – ladies and the elevated levels of estrogen pre-cycle. 


Water retention can be quiet uncomfortable and it can really make or break a physique.

It contains powerful diuretic compounds called taraxasterols that support the secretion of excess water as well as bitter compounds that enhance the efficiency of the body’s eliminative and detoxifying functions.[9-11] 
CornSilk: it has been used in folk medicine for a long time and has multiple positive effects. It can decrease blood pressure and intraocular pressure. This effect is partly due to the diuretic quality.[12-14]


Nettle Leaf Extract: if you have ever entered a fitness competition and dieted down, you know nettle leaf extract. Everybody drinks Nettle Leaf tea, because it has diuretic effect.[15]
