Most people, when they try to lose bodyfat or to gain muscle or to transform their body, like to follow their progress with the scale – because that is the easiest solution. It’s not uncommon to see the scale weight go up 1-2-3-4 kilograms after a „cheat weekend”. If we see that, we should keep calm: that is definitely not fat mass. You can’t build that much fat in such a short period of time. I’d say that 80-90 % (maybe even more) of that mass is just plain water retention. The same situation can happen to the ladies in a certain week of the month (or right before that). Do not freak out – it is just water!
This is one of the reasons why the scale is not the most reliable indicators of diet progression – your scale weight can fluctuate depending on your water and sodium intake or your hormonal cycle.
Body water 101 – the basics:
Our body manages water retention or excretion mostly through sodium and potassium concentrations. The concentration of sodium and potassium in certain tissues is a constant – sodium is more abundant int he blood and the extracellular fluids, while potassium concentration is higher inside the cells. The body tries to maintain homeostasis, and thus the concentration and ratio of these two ions. If we eat something salty, sodium concentration increases. To compensate for that, the body increases sodium excretion through the kidneys. If we drink a lot of water, the excat opposit will happen – it dilutes our blood, and to compensate that, the kidneys start excreting more water, and more urine.
What causes water retention?
There are multiple factors at play:
1. High sodium intake.
2. A low carbohydrate diet followed by a high carb meal/day/diet. That causes glycogen super compensation, and every gram of glycogen synthesized binds another 3,6 grams of water (glycogen is stored in the form of glycogen-hydrate). The more muscle you have, the more glycogen you can store, the more water will be retained under the described circumstances.
3. Hormonal enviroment – ladies and the elevated levels of estrogen pre-cycle.
Water retention can be quiet uncomfortable and it can really make or break a physique.
This is where HydraSteel can be of a lot of help! HydraSteel is a completely natural diuretic, that can help you get rid of the excess water. This product was designed for everybody – not only for fitness competitors. With all the natural, proven active ingredients it has a diuretic effect but does not mess with the soidum-potassium balance of the body – a feature that makes it completly safe!
What are those active ingredients?
Uva Ursi: a plant commonly called Bearberry. The tea made from the leaf or the leaf extract has a strong bacteriostatic effect. The leaf extract can help curing urinary tract infections. The leaf contains a hydroquinone called albutin. Albutin, with the other compounds in the extract (absorbed from the intestines and excreted in the urine) has proven effective againts more than 70 different types of bacteria.[1-3] It is also a natural compound with strong diuretic properties that also promotes a rapid expulsion of body fluid through the urinary tract, relieving temporary water retention without putting stress on the kidneys. Albutin has anti-inflammatory effects as well.
Juniper Berry: The extract of the berries or the essential oil made from it has a strong antifungal and antibacterial effect.[6,7] Naturally stimulates the kidneys to move fluids faster.
Dandelion Extract: An extremely effective diuretic that does not cause the side effects of mineral depletion. It contains powerful diuretic compounds called taraxasterols that support the secretion of excess water as well as bitter compounds that enhance the efficiency of the body’s eliminative and detoxifying functions.[9-11]
CornSilk: it has been used in folk medicine for a long time and has multiple positive effects. It can decrease blood pressure and intraocular pressure. This effect is partly due to the diuretic quality.[12-14]
Nettle Leaf Extract: if you have ever entered a fitness competition and dieted down, you know nettle leaf extract. Everybody drinks Nettle Leaf tea, because it has diuretic effect.
To sum it up: HydraSteel increases water excretion and helps you get rid of excess water, without messing with your electrolytes. HydraSteel is safe and even average people can use it, though it is a perfect diuretic for a pre-contest water depletion.
